Alex confirms the vintage available, the bottle or case format and a quotation for your order.

The first vintage was the first wine to bear the Nieuwoudtville Wine of Origin designation. Grown at 820 metres on the edge of the Bokkeveld escarpment, where dolerite, Tankwa shale and sandstone meet, it is a wine of cool nights, warm days and uncommon clarity.

The listed vintage is a reference; Alex confirms the lot available for your order.

The label

A winning debut

The first vintage, the 2023, was the first wine to carry the Nieuwoudtville Wine of Origin. Its label, created with Studio Sebastian, carries the sunbird, the butterflies and the bulbs of the plateau. At the 2023 Winemag Label Design Awards it took a bronze award and the People's Choice Award: a first-time entry, carried by the votes of friends, family and the people who had tasted it.

From the farm's own announcement of the awards; the archive photograph below shows the 2023 bottle.

Tasting

Tasting notes

Notes for the 2023 vintage, from the farm's own tasting document

  • Pale lemon; pronounced nose of elderflower, candied lemon rind, white peach and just-ripe guava
  • Lime leaf, green peppercorn, sea salt and wet stone
  • Dry, high acidity, a textured phenolic grip and a long finish
  • Built to age: the acidity carries the aromatics for years

These notes describe the 2023 vintage. Notes for the vintage you order are confirmed with Alex rather than carried over.

The place

A small vineyard beside the dam

The only vineyard in the Nieuwoudtville Wine of Origin, at 820 m where dolerite, Tankwa shale and sandstone meet. In flower season the rows fill with yellow flowers; in winter the vines stand bare while the dam that irrigates them fills.
